How do you audit a TikTok Shop?
Check six things against what the top shops do: your products, shop health, samples, creator pay, video volume and GMV Max ads. Most of the numbers below come from people who run shops or sell services to them, so treat them as rules of thumb. TikTok didn't publish them.
What numbers should your shop hit?
Start with this table, then read the section for any line you miss.
| Check | Number to hit | Whose number |
|---|---|---|
| Gross margin before fees | 40% or more | Evolve Media |
| Seller-fault cancel rate | Under 2.5% | Taha Tahir |
| Order defect rate | Under 1% | Taha Tahir |
| Late dispatch | Under 4% | Taha Tahir |
| Shop score | Above 4.0 | Taha Tahir |
| Videos per sample | 1 is break even, 1.5 is good, 2 or more is excellent | Commerce Social |
| Creator commission | About 15% to 20% | Bloom |
| For a $1 million month | 50+ active affiliates posting, 75+ videos a week | Social Tale |

Is your product right for the shop?
It is if a viewer can see its value on camera in under 10 seconds. That's Muhammad Faisal's first screen. For a launch he also looks for 500+ orders on similar listings, 15+ organic creator videos in the last 30 days, and at least 35% margin after the cost of goods. catalXst warns that a hero product at $19.99 or less often loses money. To see where each dollar goes, read what TikTok Shop fees take out of a sale.

Is your shop healthy enough to grow?
Look at the four health numbers in the table often, since Taha Tahir warns a suspension can come with no warning. Commerce Social says a score below 4.0 gets you pushed down. Social Tale runs one more test before a big push. It wants 60+ days of stock on your hero product, 50+ active affiliates, 100+ proven content pieces, a score above 4.5 and shipping under two days. With fewer than three of those five, it says to fix the base first.

Are your samples paying off?
Divide the videos you got by the samples you sent, and if the answer is under 1, Commerce Social says you're losing money on samples. Bora Mutluoglu of Reacher points to TikTok's benchmark of 3 videos per sample, and says most brands get 50 to 100 videos from 100 samples.
Bloom is the high mark. It turned 1,000 samples into 14,000+ videos, about 14 per sample. Then count who sells, because Flywheel and Reacher report that 86% of affiliates generate zero sales.

Are you paying creators the right rate?
Look at your rate against what others pay, and at how you plan to change it. Bloom pays about 15% to 20%, about $4 to $7 a sale, and Insense says TikTok suggests starting at 15%. Before you cut a rate, know TikTok's rule: a raise applies right away, while a cut is delayed and creators already promoting get 30 days of protection.

Are you posting enough videos?
Probably not, because the gap to the top is wide. Joel Contartese says the top 5 to 10 brands post about 1,000 videos a day. A few videos carry the rest, too. In one shop AmpliSell looked at, 17 videos brought in 64% of sales and 2,050 never sold. So count your videos, then see how many of them made a sale.

Is your GMV Max target set too low?
Check it against your category average, because the advice you get can sit below it. Bloom was operating at a 2.0 while the Health average was 3.5.
So against the advice of our rep and our agency at the time, I went in and moved every campaign above a 4.5 or higher overnight.Joel Contartese of Bloom, LinkedIn, May 2026

He says that more than doubled efficiency, and he also says he isn't telling everyone to ignore their rep. Others set a floor before raising anything. Taha Tahir waits for a click rate above 2%, add to cart above 4% and conversion above 1.5%. Commerce Social skips ads altogether under 100 videos.

What does a TikTok Shop consultant add?
A second pair of eyes that has seen other shops, and a checklist can't give you that. We run this kind of audit for free. After that: We run your brand's TikTok Shop end to end. No retainer. No setup fee. Our agency is only compensated on a commission basis. That's our TikTok Shop consulting, with 55+ brands, 120M impressions and $25M+ in GMV behind it.
